Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is that stream of medicine that handles and undertakes surgery of the visual pathways, including the eyes and the brain. The word Ophthalmology means "The science of eyes".

Ophthalmologists are those physicians who are qualified in their fields and set on a training program which usually  lasts for about three years in maximum countries. Many of the ophthalmologists prefer to go through extra training in any one of the special streams of this field.they use highly sophisticated instruments for detecting, diagnosing and treating the eye ailments.

Ophthalmology covers various other branches which deal with other diseases of those pertain to the eye. Few of these diseases are: Uveitis/ Immunology, Glaucoma Eye trauma, Anterior segment, Cataract surgery, Retina and vitreous surgery,  corneas, ocular oncology, Oculoplastics, Neuro ophthalmology, ophthalmic pathology, Paediatric ophthalmology, refractive surgery etc.

Eye surgery, also known as ophthalmic surgery or ocular surgery, is surgery performed on the eyes or its adnexa typically by an opthamologist. Although most eye surgeries can be performed by an experienced general ophthalmologist, more complex procedures are usually done by one who is fellowship trained.
